The train's old iron teeth cut for work, not applause. The grade got steep, the trees fell away, and every bolt seemed to have more backbone than most things made this morning.
Nothing about it was delicate. Nothing asked to be upgraded. It just climbed, steady and stubborn, the way good old machines do when somebody built them right the first time. By the top, the wind was running the place, and I had the same thought I always do around old tools — maybe lasting was once the whole point.

Who is Lucky Jack?
My grandfather, "Lucky" Jack Jones lived the kind of stories families pass down. He crossed the Mojave in a dying Jeep, worked his way up the Amazon, prospected in the frozen north, and slipped through the Louisiana bayous with gators at his heels. Wherever he went, he started prepared and fixed what needed fixin' along the way. His story reminds us that the right tools, steady hands, and a bit of grit can carry a man through anything.
